The Preferred Scheme is to provide a 1 in 100 year return period Standard of Protection (SoP) for a fluvial event and a 1 in 200 year return period (SoP) for a coastal event. In other words, the preferred scheme is designed to protect against a fluvial flood event that has a 1% chance of occurring and a coastal flood event that has a 0.5% chance of occurring in any given year.
