Flood Relief Schemes Project Website<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n

In May 2018, the Minister of State for the Office of Public Works at the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform launched 29 Flood Risk Management Plans for Ireland.\u00a0 The Plans identified an initial total of 118 flood relief projects to protect the main flood risk areas throughout the country.\u00a0 This number increased to 119 with the addition of the Burnfoot project following a cost review after the 2017 floods.\u00a0<\/p>\n

These Plans and projects are a key part of the overall flood risk management strategy set out in the National Development Plan 2017 \u2013 2028, involving total investment of almost \u20ac1 billion over the ten year time frame. As it is not possible to implement all of the 119 projects at the one time, a total of 57 projects were prioritised for the initial tranche of investment.<\/p>\n

Donegal County Council (DCC) and the Office of Public Works (OPW) have established a Steering Group to oversee the implementation of flood relief schemes in Co. Donegal arising from the Flood Risk Management Plan that have been released by Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The flood relief schemes currently being developed are Ballybofey & Stranorlar, Buncrana, Burnfoot, Castlefinn, Glenties, Na D\u00fanaibh, Ramelton (managed by Donegal County Council) and Lifford (managed by the OPW). Kerrykeel Flood Relief Scheme is being progressed by the OPW\u2019s \u00a0in-house\u00a0Flood Relief and Risk Management\u00a0team with support from Donegal County Council.\u00a0 A flood relief scheme for Raphoe is also being progressed by the OPW and commenced prior to the publication of Flood Risk Management Plans.<\/p>\n
